Essence
It is often said that many people change over their lives from innocent youths into strange, violent, psychopathic individuals. This process makes this person stand out from the rest to be a victim of society, cursed to behave in a certain way.
As one of my favourite fictional characters Eric Draven once said, “Victims, aren’t we all”. In that one line, he spoke of the fact that no matter what we do in life, our souls will always be cursed in one way or another. It is in seeking absolution of that curse that we find the true essence of ourselves. Eric became an angel of vengeance for someone he loved the most in the world and to that point he put on his mask of virtue. His true self. Such a mask is something we all hold inside us.
The caterpillars that were once normal, that were once content with the world finally molt, becoming magnificent butterflies that shine in the light. To many this change is gradual, but to those who have always known they were butterflies, this is reality.
Victims only stay victims if they choose to suffer in silence, butterflies flap their wings, make a lot of noise and bring about changes in others with their beauty and strength. These type of people are beautiful to witness flourishing in such a backwards world.
A candle is only lit once, but should always burn twice as bright. :)
